Shirley's paintings have been exhibited in ten solo art shows and in numerous group shows both in Canada and the United States. Shirley possessed more than 20 years of business office management experience, as well as an extensive creative arts background. A graduate of Saint John Vocational School, she studied music, singing, and most importantly, visual arts. Shirley began her formal training with Fred Ross and Robert Perceval of Saint John and studied under numerous well-known Canadian artists at Mt. Allison Summer School, Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre, and at Phoebe Flory Watercolour School in New Hampshire, U.S.A., which she attended on scholarship. Through her work in the arts community and the tourism industry, Shirley established strong ties with artists and cultural organizations throughout New Brunswick and the United States. In 1990 she conducted the first of a long series of popular art in various media. In the following year she illustrated "Festival By the Sea's" 1994 promotional poster and brochures. In 1995 she organized and chaired the first Saint John Art Club as well as a stint as producer of the monthly Fundy Cable Television series "The Art Club Chronicles".
