Fabiola Martinez

Born in Mexico, Fabiola earned her degree in architecture from the Instituto Tecnológico de Querétaro. Several years ago she moved to Canada and now considers both Mexico and Canada her home. Fabiola is working as a professional artist, combining her architectural background with the use of natural materials in her artwork as a means of preserving ancestral techniques. Her work is distinguished by the use of Cochineal, a natural dye derived from "carmine", a pigment produced by a beetle (Dactylopius coccus) that is found on cacti in South America.
Fabiola has been the recipient of several grants by ArtsNB and the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture of New Brunswick. She was nominated as an Immigrant Entrepeneur 2016 by Fusion Saint John. Her work was showcased at MOAH The Museum of Art and History in Lancaster California. Fabiola’s work is represented by the prestigious Lotton Gallery in Chicago.
Fabiola is a juried member of The New Brunswick Crafts Council, WEAD—Women Environmental Artists in California, LACAP-The Latin American-Canadian Art Projects in Toronto and ArtsLink NB.
Through a jury process Fabiola was selected to be one of the twenty artists from New Brunswick participating in 2017 Beneath the Surface Residency Program on June in Fundy National Park by Craft NB.
Fabiola is passionate about her community she worked with the Joshua Group on a six-month art project “Art as Peaceful Means of Expression”. She continues teaching art programs and painting sessions for children and adults at her studio in Quispamsis NB.
