Kit Deslauriers

Christiane Deslauriers grew up in Quebec City, interested in music, dance and art. She obtained a diploma in visual arts, but her love of the outdoors and horses led her to study agriculture and eventually to a career in agricultural research and development. After retiring she began studying oil painting with Ron Hayes at ArtCan Studio in Nova Scotia where she has participated in several art shows. She has lived mainly in Quebec, Ontario and the Atlantic provinces; she now resides in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley.

"Colours and shapes have fascinated me for as long as I can remember. I could always entertain myself observing them around me or playing with them on paper. For me, squeezing colours out of tubes and mixing them together to create more colours is pure joy; arranging them on a canvas into shapes that evoke a feeling is an intriguing challenge. Among my favourite feelings is the transcendence that comes from walking through forests and fields; I may be biased from having studied and worked with plants as a scientist for most of my life. Consequently, my paintings are often landscapes that feature plants prominently. As much as I try to represent the way they look, I want to capture the physical and emotional sensations of being there."
